Software solution optimizes profitability and performance of remote desktop service
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & LONDON, UK - August 30, 2016 - Cloud services provider, Backbone (UK) Limited, today announced it has reduced its storage consumption by more than 75 percent by implementing Atlantis Computing software to support its Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS). The new software-defined solution enables virtual desktops and applications to be faster and more cost effective than physical PCs, optimizing profitability and providing a great user experience.
Backbone (UK) Limited has offered DaaS for more than 11 years, and boasts a scrupulous track record in customer satisfaction. However, its existing traditional storage solution lacked the ability to dedupe and compress data, which restricted its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and threatened to downgrade performance. The company needed a new storage solution to optimize end-user experience and provide greater flexibility in its delivery of services and the ability to scale.
After evaluating solutions from 10 storage vendors, Backbone (UK) Limited selected Atlantis USX for its flexibility, speed and price.
Praveet Zain, chief technology officer at Backbone (UK) Limited, explained, "Atlantis supports hybrid storage infrastructures as well as modern hyperconverged storage systems. This combination enables us to leverage our existing storage products initially and then migrate to a new storage platform at a leisurely pace, to minimize our initial costs, avoid disruption for customers and maintain our high-quality user experience."
"In addition, USX offers greater monitoring and reporting capabilities, which helps us make informed business decisions regarding the profitability and development of Backbone (UK) Limited's service," he added.
Chris Plant, Atlantis EMEA vice president said, "We are delighted to play an instrumental part in expanding Backbone (UK) Limited's VDI service in a more cost-effective manner. Moreover, while Backbone (UK) Limited's storage capacity was once allocated to one end user, it now supports six to eight users and delivers a high-quality desktop experience that is better than local desktops. This achievement demonstrates how organizations can optimize and extend any type of storage for their virtual desktops using Atlantis USX."
Backbone (UK) Limited is migrating more than 2,000 users to the Atlantis platform, which accommodates three times as many users. Zain is confident that the newly created storage infrastructure will provide greater agility for Backbone (UK) Limited to expand quickly and meet new demands. Moving forward, the surplus capacity will support other remote IT services such as DR-DaaS. Zain said, "Atlantis USX is a future-proofed product with features that will protect our investment in our desktop-as-a-service solution for at least the next two or three years, as well as help us to create brand new revenue streams for the business."
