Atlantis ILIO Persistent VDI is a 100% software solution that is designed for use with Citrix XenDesktop dedicated virtual desktops or VMware Horizon View persistent virtual desktops, delivering better than physical PC performance with CAPEX and OPEX that is up to 80% lower than conventional solutions. To provide high availability and disaster recovery options for persistent virtual desktops, this solution includes Atlantis ILIO utilities like ILIO Snap Clone, ILIO Fast Clone, and ILIO Fast Replication that leverage a very small amount of shared storage. And it is fully compatible with native hypervisor tools and utilities across all major server hypervisor platforms, any type of storage, and Atlantis ILIO Center deployment automation to ensure rapid, reliable, and risk-free rollouts and recoveries.
Atlantis ILIO Persistent VDI leverages Atlantis Computing’s patent-pending In-Memory Storage technology to support deployments that scale linearly without adding shared storage, reducing the risks associated with VDI projects with an economically compelling solution that will please end users, desktop administrators, and IT management alike.
Atlantis ILIO Persistent VDI offers two deployments modes for persistent virtual desktop environments. In “memory-backed” mode, all primary storage is located in server RAM, with only a very small amount of external shared storage required to store user profiles and deduplicated desktop data. Memory-backed mode is popular in greenfield deployments since it minimizes the requirements for any new external storage and provides the absolute highest performance.
In “disk-backed” mode, the metadata that Atlantis ILIO uses for storage optimization is kept in server RAM, while the primary storage is located on some other form of storage. This could be host-based flash, internal disk, or network storage. Disk-backed mode is popular in brownfield deployments where virtual desktops are already up and running and storage for them has already been purchased. In these environments, Atlantis ILIO offers two general benefits. It will increase the desktop density this storage can support by up to 20x, significantly lowering the cost per desktop. And it will reduce the IO the storage must handle by up to 100x, effectively increasing the amount of IOPS used to drive desktop performance.
